The Springfield Three: A 30-Year Mystery

The Springfield Three: A 30-Year Mystery

The Unsolved Mystery of the Springfield Three

Imagine waking up on a sunny June morning, expecting a quiet start to your summer, only to find that three women—A woman, her daughter, and her daughter's best friend—have completely vanished from their own home. No signs of a struggle, no frantic calls for help, no clear leads. Just...gone.

This isn’t the opening of a suspense novel or a chilling thriller—it’s a real case that has baffled investigators for over 30 years. The disappearance of the Springfield Three—Suzanne “Suzie” Streeter, her mother, Sherrill Levitt, and Suzie’s friend Stacy McCall—remains one of the most perplexing missing persons cases in history. It’s a story riddled with eerie details, baffling decisions, and a frustrating lack of answers.

A Night of Celebration Turns into a Nightmare

June 6, 1992, was supposed to be a night of celebration. Suzie and Stacy had just graduated from high school, ready to step into their futures. They spent the evening bouncing between parties, reveling in their accomplishment with friends. The plan was simple: stay the night at a hotel, then head to a water park the next day.

But plans changed.

Instead of staying at the hotel, or even a friend’s house they had considered, they decided to crash at Suzie’s house, where her mother, Sherrill, was home alone. A decision that, in hindsight, might have altered the course of their fate.

By the next morning, all three were missing.

The Scene of the Crime—or Was It?

When friends arrived at the house the next day, they found something unsettling. The front door was unlocked. The porch light was shattered. The women’s cars were still in the driveway. Their purses, money, and even Sherrill’s cigarettes and lighter were inside.

Yet, there was no sign of struggle. No blood. No mess. Nothing to suggest what had unfolded.

And then, there were the calls.

The house’s answering machine had received a strange voicemail, later erased— perhaps accidentally—before police could hear it. Also, a call had come in that someone had answered, heard what they thought was a teen’s voice making lewd innuendos, and they hung up.

So what happened in the early hours of June 7, 1992?

Theories, Sightings, and Frustrating Dead Ends

Over the years, theories have swirled around the Springfield Three like a never-ending storm. Some believe they were abducted by an opportunistic predator. Others suspect they fell victim to someone they knew—someone who was able to enter the house without causing alarm.

There were reported sightings—a woman resembling Suzie driving a strange blue/green van, claims of that van parked outside the home that night. A convicted murderer, Robert Craig Cox, even claimed to know what happened, taunting police with cryptic statements but never revealing the truth.

Yet, despite endless theories and supposed leads, the case remains frozen in time. No bodies. No confirmed crime scene. Just three women swallowed by the night.  Really, no evidence at all.
